A Fox News poll released on Wednesday shows Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump holding a narrow lead over Democratic candidate Kamala Harris, suggesting a closely contested race for the 2024 elections.

In a similar Fox News poll from the previous month, Harris was trailing Trump by one point, with 48% support. The latest poll indicates that Trump has maintained his lead, though Harris’s polling numbers are comparable to those of Joe Biden in earlier surveys. This contrasts with other polls showing Harris gaining support following Biden’s exit from the race.
Despite these figures, the Fox poll, along with other recent polling data, points to a highly competitive 2024 presidential race. A recent Ipsos poll, for example, showed Harris with a slight lead over Trump following her official nomination last week, during which she selected Minnesota Governor Tim Walz as her running mate.
The Fox poll was published shortly after Trump addressed a rally in Asheville, North Carolina, where he discussed plans for economic reform but largely focused on personal attacks against Harris and the Democratic Party.
Harris is scheduled to speak in North Carolina later this week, as both candidates intensify their campaigns in crucial battleground states with less than three months remaining before the election.
Economic policy, particularly after nearly two years of high inflation, is expected to be a central issue in the 2024 race, along with women’s rights and immigration.
Wednesday’s poll revealed that 38% of voters consider the economy their top priority, with Trump being viewed more favorably on economic issues, holding a six-point lead over Harris in this area.
