Trump will win by ‘a landslide’ says Democratic Sen. Michael Bennet

Senator Michael Bennet of Colorado has become the first Senate Democrat to openly express concerns about President Joe Biden’s ability to win the upcoming election.

In an appearance on CNN, Bennet confirmed that he had shared these concerns with fellow Senators Jon Tester of Montana and Sherrod Brown of Ohio. However, he stopped short of suggesting that Biden should withdraw from the race.

“Yes, I did say that behind closed doors,” Bennet admitted. “When asked about it, I decided it was best to address it publicly.”

Bennet, who competed against Biden in the 2020 primary, cited recent polls showing former President Donald Trump leading Biden less than four months before Election Day as a major concern.

“Donald Trump is on track to win this election, possibly by a significant margin, and could bring the Senate and the House with him,” Bennet warned.

“For me, this isn’t about polling or politics. It’s a moral question about the future of our country. It’s crucial for us to confront the reality of what electing Donald Trump again would mean.”

President Biden has remained steadfast, reaffirming in conference calls and a public letter to Democratic lawmakers that he is the party’s nominee and will not step down. However, Bennet’s remarks are viewed as a setback for Biden’s campaign, which has been striving to prevent Democratic defections and strengthen support on Capitol Hill after Biden’s poor debate performance on June 27.

Bennet’s comments might embolden other skeptical or vulnerable Democrats to voice similar concerns.

Congressional Democrats held a closed-door meeting on Tuesday to discuss the next steps. Most described the discussion as “constructive” and were reticent about specifics as they exited the meeting.

CNN reported that Bennet, Tester, and Brown had each expressed concerns about Biden’s chances of winning the election, noting that these concerns were raised individually rather than collectively.

Both Brown and Tester are facing challenging re-election campaigns this fall.

“I have very legitimate questions about this,” Brown remarked, though he avoided discussing the details of private meetings.

Tester did not deny the reports about his remarks but chose not to comment further. Later, he released a statement saying, “President Biden’s poor debate performance has raised serious questions about whether he’s up to the job for the next four years. He needs to prove to the American people, and to me, that he can do it.”
